The book was written by romance writer Rustichello da Pisa , who worked from accounts which he had heard from Marco Polo when they were imprisoned together in Genoa. The book was translated into many European languages in Marco Polo's own lifetime, but the original manuscripts are now lost, and their reconstruction is a matter of textual criticism. From the beginning, there has been incredulity over Polo's sometimes fabulous stories, as well as a scholarly debate in recent times. Some have questioned whether Marco had actually travelled to China or was just repeating stories that he had heard from other travellers.

Benjamin B. FascinatingstuffBy Thomas ReiterI just finished this very interesting book, and wanted to post a quick review. This book, by an actual"historian of cartography" and university professor , describesthe rather enigmatic and utterly unique collection of maps whichwere apparently brought from Italy by an immigrant in the early20th century. Despite this person's attempts to engage the Libraryof Congress to study the maps during the ss, only cursoryexaminations were performed including by the FBI , and after asingle journal article about the maps was published in , thecollection completely disappeared from view. The author is to becommended for bringing these maps back to light, tracking down thecurrent owner, and conducting the first rather thorough study ofthe maps. In what might be the ultimate commercial accolade for anyhistorian of cartography, at the time of writing this review, theauthor's book is ranked 1 by in the Atlas category

- Solo el escroto.
