Abstract: The U. These observations are often coupled with a variety of recommendations, such as creating more strategic thinkers and cultivating more agile service cultures. This article highlights the tangled interactions between these two challenges as well as a third: harnessing the power of storytelling. The focus for this article is something often overlooked in assessments of Athena, that the goddess is often known by two names: as Pallas Athena. My study makes a challenge to the long-standing and enduring framework for interpreting the goddess as an inherently meaningful concept that sits behind any given source. This paper emerges out of issues around the interpretation of Athena that I am exploring in a forthcoming book Deacy, forthcoming. Classical Antiquity 1 April ; 18 1 : 74— This paper explores some aspects of the complex narrative strategies employed by Odysseus in his lying tale to Eumaios Odyssey Odysseus' fictional autobiography is an ethical parable, designed to commend and validate the very principles of hospitality that Eumaios most cherishes. In the tale, Zeus, god of guests, punishes those who violate hospitality and protects those who depend upon it, bringing the beggar ultimately to the worthy swineherd. He thereby displays mastery of a traditional mode of poetic narrative. Odysseus also makes the Cretan wanderer a hero of the Trojan War and devotes a considerable portion of his narrative to describing the beggar's "Iliadic" past. His portrait of the Cretan hero draws particularly upon the model of Achilles and, to a lesser extent, Ajax but is in fact a one-dimensional version of the standard Iliadic hero.

Consequently, the intellectual abilities necessary for professionals to pursue the internal goods of healthcare are changing as well. The SSIA has recently consolidated its power over the sickness certificates that doctors issue for their patients. The result has been a stricter gatekeeping of sickness benefits.
